John Shotwell
Resident Sound Designer
John is a freelance audio engineer and stagehand.
His extensive list of sound design credits include: New Phoenix Theatre (FOOL
FOR LOVE, THE COUNTRY GIRL, THE RESERVOIR, and others),
Road Less Traveled Productions (BONEGRINDERS, HOMELAND, PEDDLER'S BONES,
and others), Shakespeare in Delaware Park (LOVE'S
LABOUR'S LOST, HAMLET), and the Lazlo/Rozler Noise Project, which
has performed at the Burchfield-Penny Arts Center, and Big Orbit/Soundlab.
With Subversive Theatre, John has crafted soundscapes
for a virtually endless list of our productions dating all the way back to
some of the earliest days of our company -- A FUNNY THING HAPPENED ON MY WAY TO SHOOT THE CZAR
(2004), WHAT I HEARD ABOUT IRAQ (2006), and MY NAME IS RACHEL CORRIE
(2008), NICKEL
AND DIMED (2008), PALACE
OF THE END (2008), DROP
HAMMER (2008), OUROBOROS
(2009), WATERBOARDING
BLUES (2009), and -- most recently -- WIDOWS (2009).
Look for John's sound design skills at work again
in our upcoming production of 84 this January.
Outside the world of Theater, John also works for a variety of rock bands. He has toured around the world with The
John and Mary Band, Moxy Fruvous, The 10,000
Maniacs, The Horse Flies, and -- most recently -- Enter the Haggis.
