Meet the Gang
Keith Elkins
Actor/Honorary Board Member
After many years performing with Subversive Theatre,
Keith joined our troupe's Board of Trustees and served as Board Chairman
from August of 2007 - January of 2009. After doing much more than his
fair share, Keith is now happy to serve the group in the less onerous
capacity of "Honorary Board Member."
As an actor, Keith has appeared in over fifty productions
since 1979 on just about every stage in Buffalo including the Kavinoky,
Shakespeare in Delaware Park, Theater of Youth, Alleyway, the Pfeiffer, the
Playhouse, Buffalo Ensemble Theatre, and the New Phoenix Theatre.
On the administrative side, Keith has served on the Board
of Directors of both the Buffalo Ensemble Theatre and Shakespeare in
Delaware Park as well as serving in an administrative and/or advisory role
for a long list of non-theatrically-oriented community service organizations
in the Buffalo area.
As an educator, Keith holds a Ph.D. in Educational
Psychology from the University of Chicago as well as an MEd in Guidance and
Counseling from the University of Illinois, Urbana. He is a
Distinguished Service Professor Emeritus at the State University of New York
and only recently retired from his long-standing position with SUNY Empire
State College.
Since 2002, the vast majority of Keith's stage
appearances have been with Subversive Theatre. With us from our
first-ever production, his subversive credits include: A FUNNY
THING HAPPENED ON MY WAY TO SHOOT THE CZAR (2002), KARL MARX IN
ALLENTOWN (2002) as the Father of Communism himself, BURY THE DEAD (2003), ARE YOU NOW OR HAVE YOU
EVER BEEN... (2004), MOTHER
DIS-COURAGE (2004
& 2005) as the ghost of Bertolt Brecht, THE MOTHER
(2005), WHAT I HEARD ABOUT IRAQ (2006), FOUNDATIONS (2007), SPEAK
TRUTH TO POWER (2007), SUBVERSIVE SHORTS 2007, WAITING FOR
LEFTY (2008) as the jaded, alcohol-infatuated Dr. Barnes (pictured
above), and -- most recently -- THE MAN WHO NEVER DIED (2008).
An ever-reliable man of many talents, we are honored to
count him among our ranks. Subversive Theatre would not be where it is
today without Keith sagacious guidance through the wilderness of our early
years.
