Meet the Gang
Lara Haberberger
Actor/Director/"sHORTs" Curator
The Curator of our "sUBVERsIVE sHORTs" program, Lara
holds an MFA from the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C.
where she worked with such groups as the Washington Stage Guild, Repstage,
the Washington Shakespeare Company, Source Theatre, and the Kennedy Center
of the Arts.
Some of her most notable out-of-town directing credits include
Glen Mas’s THE BIRTH OF FLIGHT for the Kennedy Center’s Prelude
Festival, Thorton Wilder’s THE HAPPY JOURNEY FROM TRENTON TO CAMDEN
for a PBS special on the playwright, LE BOURGEOIS AVANT-GARDE as her
MFA directing thesis at the Catholic University of America (winner of the
Gilbert V. Harkte Directing Award) and served as the assistant director for
Repstage’s production of Richard Greenburg’s THE DAZZLE winner of the
Helen Hayes' (Washington DC equivalent’s to the Arties held at the Kennedy
Center) Award for Best Directing.
Since her arrival here in Buffalo in 2006, Lara
founded the Brazen Faced Varlets
Performance Troupe directing and/or acting in their productions of RAMONA AND
JULIET, A MIDSUMMER DYKE'S DREAM, CATHOLIC SCHOOL GIRLS, MY SISTER IN THIS HOUSE,
THE WELL OF HORNINESS, VESSELS, and -- most recently -- CLIT NOTES.
Lara has also appeared in the Buffalo United Artists'
productions of DOS LESBOS and RAMONA AND JULIET.
With Subversive Theatre, Lara performed in the staged
reading of SPEAK TRUTH TO POWER (pictured left) for May Day
2007 and then directed the one-act monologue "Lindsay" as part of our
2007 sUBVERsIVE sHORTs Showcase.
Most recently, she directed the vignette "Southpaw Stance" for
sUBVERsIVE sHORTs 2009.
Watch out for Lara as she brings her acting talents
to bear in our production of Eve Ensler's NECESSARY TARGETS coming up
this April.
