"As a young man when it was my turn to see a dictatorship take over my country, Chile, and watch my friends persecuted and murdered while I was spared, when it became my turn to try and figure out how I could write stories and find the words that explored the vast heart of human suffering and the vaster complexity and enigmas of evil, ever since then I had been waiting for the occasion to put my art yet one more time at the service of those who had kept me warm in the midst of my own struggles."

Taking George Orwell's prophetic dystopian masterpiece into the Twenty-First Century, 84 is a totally unique blending of traditional theatre with multi-media wizardry and interpretive movement techniques to produce one extraordinary and totally unique dramatic experience.
Complete with Thought-Police, Big Brother, and the Two-Minute Hate, our production of 84 offers audiences a stunning assault on both the mind and the senses as the hapless characters of this not-too-far-in-the-future world struggle for love and freedom of thought against a monolithic technological dictatorship.

84 is Conceived of and Directed by Subversive Theatre Troupe Member Brian Zybala* -- the man who also created our physical theatre production of OUROBOROS last year.  With his refreshing vision for experimental theatre, Brian has once again crafted a passionate, powerful, and mind-bending experience that is unlike anything else in the world of Buffalo theatre.
Replete with issues that are all TOO relevant to our Twenty-First Century world of waterboardings, Patriot Acts, and illegal wire-tappings, 84 is a timeless and crucial cry against authoritarianism that should not be missed.  Big Brother is watching . . . and so should you.
84 features the acting talents of Andrew Kottler, Rebecca Ward, Natalie Mack, Thomas Scahill*, David Butterfield, Jenna Winnett, Tamara Hopersberger*, Hanna Lipkind, Mary Boatman, and Michael O'Hear in addition to video and voiceover work by Saul Elkin, Gerald Finnegan, and Beth Elkins.  Set Design is by Dyan O'Connell*, with Lighting Design by Carlie Todoro-Rickus*, Sound Design by John "Lazlo" Shotwell*, Costume Design by Bryan Patrick Stoyle, Movement Choreography by Monica Karwan*, and Videography by Brian Milbrand and Holly Johnson with additional animations by Tom Holt.
Performances run Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays at 8pm from January 8 through January 31 at Subversive Theatre's regular performance venue "The Manny Fried Playhouse" on the third floor of North Buffalo's Great Arrow Building at 255 Great Arrow Avenue.
There will be one free preview on Thursday, January 7 at 8pm and one actors' benefit performance on Sunday, January 31st at 6pm.
Tickets are $15 general admission or $10 for students, seniors and Subversive Theatre Members.  For all Thursday performances, admission is pay-what-you-can.
Reservations are not available, seating is on a first-come-first-served basis with doors opening one half hour prior to each performance.
