Taking George Orwell's prophetic dystopian
masterpiece into the Twenty-First Century, 84 is
a totally unique blending of traditional theatre with multi-media wizardry and
interpretive movement techniques to produce one extraordinary dramatic
experience.
Complete with Thought-Police, Big Brother, and the
Two-Minute Hate, our production of 84 offers
audiences a stunning assault on both the mind and the senses as the hapless
characters of this not-far-in-the-future world struggle for love and freedom
of thought against a monolithic technological dictatorship.
Conceived of and Directed by Subversive Theatre
Troupe Member Brian Zybala* -- the man who also created our physical theatre
production of OUROBOROS last year. With his refreshing vision for
experimental theatre, Brian has once again crafted a passionate, powerful, and
mind-bending experience that is completely unique in the world of Buffalo theatre.
Replete with issues that are all TOO relevant to our
Twenty-First Century world of waterboardings, Patriot Acts, and illegal wire-tappings,
84 is a timeless and crucial cry against
authoritarianism that should not be missed. Big Brother is watching . .
. and so should you.
84 features the acting talents of Andrew Kottler,
Rebecca Ward, Natalie Mack, Thomas Scahill*, David Butterfield, Jenna Winnett,
Tamara Hopersberger*, Hanna Lipkind, Mary Boatman, and Michael O'Hear in addition to video and
voiceover work by Saul Elkin and Gerald Finnegan.
Set Design is by Dyan O'Connell*, with Lighting Design by Carlie
Todoro-Rickus*, Sound Design by John "Lazlo" Shotwell*, Costume Design by
Bryan Patrick Stoyle, and Videography by Brian Milbrand and Holly Johnson.
Performances run Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays at
8pm and Sundays at 6pm from January 8 through January 31 at Subversive Theatre's regular
performance venue "The Manny Fried Playhouse" on the
third floor of North Buffalo's Great Arrow Building at 255 Great Arrow
Avenue. There will be one free preview of Thursday, January 7 at 8pm.
