Production History of
FOUNDATIONS
Our current production marks the world-debut of
this play . . . so, obviously, this piece doesn't have a very long history.
Kurt Schneiderman began writing this work in the Fall
of 2004 based on actually events that had then recently taken place on
Buffalo's East Side. The first draft took roughly seven months to
complete.
FOUNDATIONS was first presented in the form of a staged reading at the
New Phoenix Theatre in February of 2005 (quite coincidentally, on the fortieth
anniversary of the assassination of Malcolm X!). Since that time, it has
undergone three major re-writes before reaching its present form.
Logistically speaking, FOUNDATIONS is very
challenging play to produce involving a very large cast as well as a very
elaborate set. It took almost two years to raise the funds and enlist
the personnel needed for an ambitious project such as this.
Now, after years of preparations, fund-raising,
re-writes, casting, re-casting, re-re-casting, debate, discussion,
brain-storming, and -- of course -- extensive rehearsal and technical work, we
are thrilled to at long last bring FOUNDATIONS to life.
