"The Arts are the locale for a kind of guerilla warfare . . . they're subtle so the Establishment gambles that they won't lead to anything threatening.
But the Establishment often loses that gamble."

A hundred years ago there was a revolutionary Christmas where peace broke out in the midst of war.

It really happened.  In 1914, the soldiers of World War I came out of their trenches and put down their guns.  They defied their generals and declared their own truce -- a Christmas Truce as they celebrated the holiday with their supposed enemies from the other side of the battlefield.  They showed the World that people could rise above propaganda and nationalism and hate and bring the war machine to a screeching halt.  It was one of the most important moments in history and all too few know it even happened.

Subversive Theatre is proud to commemorate the 100 year anniversary of this incredible event with the world debut of a new play: THE GUNS OF CHRISTMAS written & directed by Buffalo's award-winning author Gary Earl Ross.  Inspired by these stunning historical events, our fictional drama takes us back to December 25th, 1914 as soldiers on both sides of the front line begin to question their orders to kill on the day for "peace on Earth, good will toward men."

As the two sides try to come together, they face all the hurdles that were designed to keep them apart. Which is stronger: the call of patriotism or the yearning for peace?   Fear of the outsider or respect for all humanity?  Love of country or solidarity with the other pawns on the board?

"Either we will end war or war will end us."
-Percy

THE GUNS OF CHRISTMAS keeps alive the legacy of this rare day in history where rank-and-file soldiers reclaimed their humanity and refused to be pawns in the warmonger's game.  It is a beautiful tribute to the power of the people and the real meaning of Christmas.  This holiday season, take one less trip to the mall.  Come to Subversive Theatre and join us as we celebrate a very different kind of Christmas spirit!

This production stars Lawrence Rowswell*, J. Tim Raymond*, John Kennedy*, Lucas Lloyd, Justin Fiordaliso, Thorin Vallentin, Jacob Sauer, Rick Vogt, Murry Galloway*, Michael Mottern, and Ryan Filer*.  Lighting Design is by Subversive Theatre's Founder & Artistic Director Kurt Schneiderman* with Set Design by John Kennedy and Sound Design by Rick Vogt.

We are proud to present this extraordinary anti-war drama in partnership with our friends at the Western New York Peace Center.  THE GUNS OF CHRISTMAS runs December 4th - 20th with performances Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays at 8pm.  All shows are in Subversive Theatre's usual performance venue, The Manny Fried Playhouse, at 255 Great Arrow Avenue on the third floor of North Buffalo's historic Great Arrow Building.

Tickets are $25 general admission or $20 for students, seniors, and Subversive Theatre members.  As always, on Thursdays admission is pay-what-you-can.
