Kurt Schneiderman*
(Director/Poster Design)
Subversive Theatre's Founder & Artistic Director,
Kurt is thrilled to bring to life this wild re-interpretation of THE HAIRY
APE -- a project he's been envisioning for many years.
A playwright, director, Award-winning lighting
designer, college professor, and life-long activist, Kurt has directed the lion's share of
Subversive Theatre's productions including our Artie-Award winning WAITING FOR
LEFTY (2008).
Kurt's plays have been seen in NYC, Montreal,
Chicago, and Toronto as well as enjoying multiple productions here in Buffalo. He
proudly dedicates all his artistic works to the coming Peoples' Revolution.
Time for the Plebs to get even!

Rachel Zeller
(Stage Manager/Props Mistress)
Rachel holds an A.S. in Theatre from Finger Lakes
Community College and recently earned her B.A. in Theatre from UB. It
has been many years since Rachel was so actively involved in a production and
she is very happy to be a part of this show. She does want to extend a special
note of thanks to Dan, the girls and her friends and family for accommodating
this lofty pursuit.

Hank Schmidt
(Set Design)
Hank is currently an undergraduate at the
University at Buffalo and is an applicant for a double degree in Bachelor Arts
in Theater Design and Technology as well as a Bachelor Sciences in Business
Administration for June of 2009.
Recently the set designer for a student run
production of ON THE TOWN (Nov 2008), he's
has played a role in many other student productions at UB, including Tech
Director for PRIDE AND PREJUDICE (April 2008), Asst Lighting
Designer for THE SHAPE OF THINGS (Oct 2007).
This is Hank's second time working with Subversive
Theatre -- the first time was as the Assistant Set & Lighting Designer for
DROP HAMMER
(2008).

Craig Freudenthal
(Lighting Design)
A stagehand/lighting technician in the WNY area for
over 10 years, Craig has worked at many area venues ranging from
bars/clubs like Nietzsche's and The Tralf, to theaters
like Shea's Buffalo and Studio Arena Theater, to arenas/amphitheaters like
HSBC Arena HSBC
and Darien Lakes Amphitheater,
to Ralph Wilson Stadium and everything in between.
Craig is currently the lighting designer for the original
rock band Lazlo Hollyfeld.
This project is Craig's second time lighting up the
stage for Subversive Theatre -- the first was our production of WATERBOARDING
BLUES. |

Brian Zybala*
(Conceptual Development)
In addition to his work as a performer on THE
HAIRY APE, Brian has also played a crucial role in helping to develop the
conceptual framework for this project -- participating in lengthy
brain-storming session, writing some sections of dialogue (primarily for his
own character), as well as assisting with various logistical aspects of the
show.

Paul Stephenson*
(Costume Design)
After years as a Fashion Design Major at Chicago's
Columbia College of the Arts and as a pattern maker for Chicago's Mir Couture,
Paul has recently returned to his native soil of Buffalo where he works on
several different aspects of fashion design.
While relatively new to the world of theatre
costumery, Paul has served as the costumier for Subversive Theatre's
productions of DROP
HAMMER (2008) and -- most recently -- WATERBOARDING BLUES (2009).
We're thrilled to have him on board yet again! |

Nicole Bagay
(Costume Design)
A current student in the Theatre Department of the
University of Buffalo, Nicole has been involved in a long list of UB
Departmental productions. She recently served as the Assistant Costume
Designer for their production of THE MYSTERY OF EDWIN DROOD.
This is Nicole's first time working on costumery for Subversive Theatre, but as the stage manager of our production of
our production of TOO
ABSURD! earlier this year, she's no stranger to our troupe.

Monica Karwan*
(Movement Choreography,Backdrop Painting)
Wearing many hats, Monica is both a performer and the
Movement Choreographer for this show.
A
graduate of UB's Department of Theatre and Dance, Monica boasts an M.A. in Expressive Arts Therapy
from Cambridge, Massachusetts. Experienced in Dance Therapy and a number
of movement-oriented techniques, Monica's been involved with experimental
movement projects from London, England to Kingstown, Jamaica.
This is Monica's third summer in a row crafting
awe-inspiring movement-scapes for Subversive Theatre's "infringement"
Festival productions -- first came THE
EXCEPTION AND THE RULE for the '07 "infringement"
Festival and then ...AND
THEY PUT HANDCUFFS ON THE FLOWERS. for the '08 Festival. |

Candice Kogut*
(Fight Choreography)
Both starring and designing the Fight Choreographer
for HAIRY APE, Candice is a graduate of the Theatre Department of
Niagara University where she studied stage combat and became certified in
Fight Choreography.
A valued member of Subversive Theatre, she has
crafted combat scenes for our productions of ...AND
THEY PUT HANDCUFFS ON THE FLOWERS. ("infringement"
Festival 2008), OUROBOROS
(2009), and -- most recently -- TOO ABSURD! (2009).
As always, it's a pleasure to have Candice's talents
on the case!

Franklin LaVoie*
(Mask Construction, Backdrop Painting)
Franklin LaVoie has a degree from the SUCB and is the founding member of
Skeletons In The Closet Productions. An accomplished author and playwright, Franklin's self-produced
experimental works THE BEDEVILED CHEST and MEDIUM RARE have earned
much critical acclaim.
With Subversive Theatre, Franklin has crafted sets for our productions of
THE ACCIDENTAL DEATH OF AN ANARCHIST (2002), MANIFEST DESTINY BLUES
(2003), A FUNNY THING HAPPENED ON MY WAY TO SHOOT THE CZAR for
the Toronto Fringe Festival (2004), and -- most recently -- THE
EXCEPTION AND THE RULE for the 2007 Buffalo "infringement"
Festival. |

Matthew Clabeaux*
(Poster Illustration)
An art teacher, political cartoonist, author, and now lawyer,
Matt has provided poster illustration and sometimes set painting for a long
list of Subversive Theatre projects including A
FUNNY THING HAPPENED ON MY WAY TO SHOOT THE CZAR (2004), THE
MOTHER (2005), sUBVERsIVE
sHORTs 2007, THE
EXCEPTION AND THE RULE (2007), and sUBVERsIVE sHORTs 2009.
It's great to have a subversive artist the likes of

Michael Fanelli*
(Backdrop Painting, Theatre Set-Up)
As Subversive Theatre's Executive Director, Board
Member, and Treasurer, Mike
routinely plays a variety of crucial roles in bringing our productions to
life.
This time around, Mike worked non-stop painting
backdrops, building platforms, and even setting up the seats for the
audience.
As always, we're delighted to have him on board.

Tom Izard*
(Construction & Theatre Set-Up)
With Subversive Theatre, Tom is as both an actor and
as the Financial Secretary for our Troupe. In civilian life, Tom is a
free-lance computer programmer and engineer. Many's the time we have
called upon Tom to lend his engineering and just plain grunt labor abilities
to our endeavors.
For this project, Tom went all out designing and
constructing audience platforms and sweating his guts out arranging the
non-performance areas of the theatre. Thank you Tom for all your amazing
work!

Tom Scahill*
(House Management)
A member of Subversive Theatre's Board of Directors
and the Organizer of our Troupe, Tom has long played an important role
tackling the unglamorous logistical tasks that make a theatre run . . . and,
as if this wasn't enough, he's also acted in a number of our productions!
On this project, Tom is once again playing a crucial
role overseeing the challenges of House Management and assembling a great team
of ushers, helpers, and do-ers, as well as doing the lion's share of the
postering. Way to go, Tom! |
