Starting
the weekend of Martin Luther King Day, Subversive Theatre proudly presents I
AM A MAN -- a play that show us history through the eyes of the
people that fought to change it.
I AM
A MAN tells the stunningly true story of Black sanitation workers
who launched a daring strike for dignity against the bitterly anti-union
segregationist City of Memphis, Tennessee in 1968.
As the City streets filled with the tanks of the
National Guard, brave Black activist marched defiantly with signs that proudly
proclaimed: "I AM A MAN!"
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. traveled to Memphis to
support the strike -- only to find the assassin's bullet waiting for him.
Learn the history your rulers are hoping you'll
forget from a play that dares to tell the story from the grassroots up!
