IN
THE HEART OF AMERICA
December 8, 2004
at the Main Street Cabaret
With the nation still reeling from
the re-election of the Arab-murdering dufus known as George W. Bush, we at Subversive Theatre
were eager to do something to show the anti-war movement was still alive
and kicking. When anti-war activists issued a call for
"Stop-the-War Week" to be held in early December, we felt it
was the perfect time to hold a staged reading of multiple-award-winning
anti-war drama IN THE HEART OF AMERICA.
Authored by Obie Award-winning playwright Naomi
Wallace, this chilling stream-of-consciousness play blends realism with
mysticism and tragedy with polemics in its searing castigation of
militarism, homophobia, racism, and genocide. Written in the
immediate aftermath of the First Gulf War, this new classic of American
protest theatre proved just as relevant to the imperialist atrocities
that are being committed today.
Presented in solidarity with the Buffalo United
Artists' Theatre, the Western New York Peace Center, the Buffalo War
Resisters' League, the International Action Center, and the Buffalo
Green Party, this event was held at the Main Street Cabaret with the
