"I would like my plays to be of use to
progressive people. I think preaching to the converted is exactly what art
ought to do."

About the Author
Kurt "Vile" Schneiderman
Kurt is the Founder & Artistic Director of the Subversive Theatre
Collective. A veritable "renaissance man" of the theatre, Kurt
wears a multitude of hats teaching playwrighting for the literary society Just
Buffalo, writing dramatic reviews for several local publications, serving as
Dramaturg for the Buffalo Ensemble Theatre, as well as doing technical work
and lighting design for a number of area theatres.
Named "One of Buffalo's eight emerging
playwrights" by the Buffalo News in December of 2002, Kurt has always
devoted his artistic work to promoting the cause of exploited and oppressed
people worldwide. An unapologetic socialist and activist, he is proud to
be doing his small part to revive the laudable tradition of protest theatre in
America.
Subversive Theatre produced the world debut of Kurt's
first original work MANIFEST DESTINY BLUES in the summer of 2003.
This play won the Helen Mintz Award for Playwrighting Excellence as well as being
nominated for Best New Play at the 2004 Buffalo Artie Awards.
In the summer of 2004, Kurt's second work A FUNNY
THING HAPPENED ON MY WAY TO SHOOT THE CZAR was one of the eight plays
chosen for the international component of the Toronto Fringe Festival.
This play presented Subversive Theatre with our first opportunity to present
our subversion internationally.
Also an accomplished director, Kurt has directed the
vast majority of Subversive Theatre's productions including our multiple
award-nominated rendition of PAUL ROBESON SPEAKS OUT in February of
2004.
