"The main thing is that the rebellion start off by despising
make-believe. If we behave like the other side, then we are on the
other side. Instead of changing the world, all we'll achieve is a
reflection of the one we want to destroy."
-- Jean Genet

MOTHER
DIS-COURAGE:
just another absurdist, neo-Brechtian,
anti-imperialist extravaganza in one act
PERFORMANCES AT THE NEW YORK CITY
INFRINGEMENT FESTIVAL:
Thursday, September 1st @ 8pm
Friday, September 2nd @ 8:30pm
Saturday, September 3rd @ 9:15pm
Sunday, September 4th @ 6pm
The New York City "infringement festival" is
the last leg left on our international tour of MOTHER DIS-COURAGE which
has already seen Montreal and Buffalo this summer. All of our NYC performances will be held in the Players' Loft
Theatre at 115 MacDougal Street -- right in the heart of the Village -- in
between Bleeker Street and West 3rd. Admission is on a pay-what-you-can
basis.
Written & Directed by Subversive Theatre's Founder
& Artistic Director Kurt Schneiderman, MOTHER DIS-COURAGE is a zany
anti-war spoof that pits the Spirit of Bertolt Brecht against Britney Spears
and John Lennon against George Orwell as they fight for the hearts and minds
of one American soldier in Iraq and his peace-nik mother.
Blending modern-day anti-war issues with brutal tragedy and
wacky vaudeville-esque comedy, MOTHER DIS-COURAGE is precisely the kind
of irreverent, inflammatory, and off-the-wall play that Subversive Theatre
prides itself on.
This production features the acting talents of Mary Moebius*
in the title role, Rick Lattimer as Son Dis-Courage, Keith Elkins as the Spirit
of Bertolt Brecht, Sarah Orloff* as Britney Spears, Michael Karr as the Spirits
of both John Lennon and George Orwell, and Jamie Hamilton* as both Mr. Money
Bags and Paul McCartney.
