"The thrust for freedom is the quality in tragedy which exalts.  The revolutionary questioning of the stable environment is what terrifies.  In no way is the common man debarred from such thoughts or such actions."

-Arthur Miller
1949

About the Crew

WAITING FOR LEFTY
Here's the fearless gang of behind-the-scenes-ians who made everything possible (you may have to scroll down a bit before you get to any names, but don't let that stop you)!

Kurt "Vile" Schneiderman*
(Director)
Subversive Theatre's Founder & Artistic Director, Kurt is elated to at long last direct the very play that first inspired him to dedicate his career to political theatre!
A playwright, director, Artie Award-winning lighting designer, and life-long activist, Kurt has directed the lion's share of Subversive Theatre's productions including THE ACCIDENTAL DEATH OF AN ANARCHIST (2002), PAUL ROBESON SPEAKS OUT (2004), SINCERITY FOREVER (2006), and THE EXCEPTION AND THE RULE (2007).
Many of his original plays have been produced by Subversive Theatre including MANIFEST DESTINY BLUES (2003), MOTHER DIS-COURAGE (2004/5), and -- most recently -- FOUNDATIONS (2007).
Kurt sends all his love to Jenny the Magnificent without whom all of this would be worthless.

Virginia Brannon*
(Stage Manager & Props Mistress)
A dedicated member of Subversive Theatre and a recent graduate of Niagara University's Theatre Program, Virginia is an experienced stage manager, director, and actress.
Recent projects include stage manager for the New Phoenix Theatre's productions of BLUE/ORANGE and THE ORGANIC MOVEMENT OF CHAIR AND PITCHER as well as both acting and directing for Lewiston's Theatre-in-the-Mist and the Buffalo "infringement" Festival.
Previous Subversive Theatre work includes stage manager of FOUNDATIONS and director of "Please Remove This Stuffed Animal from My Head" for SUBVERSIVE SHORTS 2007.

Carlie Todoro-Rickus*
(Lighting Designer)
Subversive Theatre's Resident Lighting Designer, Carlie is a visual artist who uses light as her medium on a living canvas. Recent designs include THE WOMAN BEFORE for The New Phoenix, IN THE MIST choreographed by William Thomas for the Zodiaque Dance Studio Ensemble, and she is the resident lighting designer for Configuration Dance.
Carlie has a degree in Fine Arts from the University at Buffalo and is also proud to design and tech for UB Center for the Arts, Studio Arena Theatre, RPM Productions, and Subversive Theatre!  On WAITING FOR LEFTY, Carlie is hot to be designing with fellow UB grads Dyan and Kate.

Dyan O'Connell
(Set Designer)
Recently returned to Buffalo, Dyan is excited to be working on her first production with Subversive Theatre.  She has been working this fall in the Theatre Department at the University at Buffalo as the Department Head Electrician and student lab supervisor.  Dyan has a Master of Fine Arts degree in Stage Design from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, TX and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Theatre Design and Technology from the University at Buffalo.
Recent designs in Dallas include HAMLET and SPRING AWAKENING.  She also does design and tech work for UB's Center for the Arts, Studio Arena Theatre, and local band Lazlo Hollyfeld.  Dyan is thrilled to be a part of such a talented cast, crew, and design team.

Geoffrey Tocin
(Sound Designer)
Over the last year, Geoff has broken into the wild world of sound working as the sound operator at the Kavinoky Theatre.  This is his first time doing sound design for a full production and he is very excited to get the chance to cut his teeth on such an unconventionally styled project as WAITING FOR LEFTY.
This production is Geoff's first time working with Subversive Theatre.

Kate Palame
(Costume Designer)
Kate is currently living in Brooklyn, NY where she is an assistant costume designer on Broadway. She just completed her M.F.A. at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, TX and received her B.A., in 2004, from the University at Buffalo.
Kate is pleased to be back in her hometown with Buffalo friends and family. This is her first time working with Subversive Theatre.

M. Joseph Fratello
(Fight Choreographer)
A recent graduate of Niagara University with a B.F.A. in Performance Theatre and Actor/Combatant Certification from the SAFD, Joe is pleased to return to the New Phoenix Theatre where he recently provided his skills as Fight Choreographer for THE PILLOWMAN.
In WAITING FOR LEFTY, Joe is not only the Fight Choreographer, but a performer as well in the role of "Dr. Benjamin."
WAITING FOR LEFTY is Joe's second time working with Subversive Theatre, the first being SUBVERSIVE SHORTS 2007 where he performed in the vignette "Capitalization" (pictured right) by Mark Nowak.

Jeffrey Coyle
(Dance Choreographer)
Jeff is pulling double-duty on this production as a cast member and a choreographer.  A graduate of the University at Buffalo where he earned a B.F.A. in Music Theatre, Jeff's experience in the world of dance encompasses a long list of musical theatre productions including Alleyway's REFER MADNESS, Kavinoky's A FUNNY THING HAPPENED ON MY WAY TO THE FORUM, and the Irish Classical Theatre's 1940s RADIO HOUR as well as several University productions.
While he's danced in many a show, this is his first time providing the choreography and he's having a blast.
     Much love to parents.  www.jeffreycoyle.com

Michael Fanelli*
(Promotional Director & House Manager)
As Subversive Theatre's Executive Director, Board Member, and Volunteer Co-ordinator, Mike routinely plays a variety of crucial roles in bringing our productions to life.
As always, we're delighted to have him on board.  Thanks, Mike, we couldn't do it with out ya!
