As the seventh annual installment of our May Day Performance Series, we are very honored to present a staged reading of THE MAN WHO NEVER DIED by Barrie Stavis in celebration of May Day 2008.  This rarely performed docu-drama play tells the all-too-true story of the life, frame-up, and execution of the famous I.W.W. organizer/songwriter Joe Hill.

-- About our May Day Performance Series

Born Joseph Hillstrom in 1879, this Swedish immigrant moved to the U.S. in 1902 and became a passionate organizer for the revolutionary union group The Industrial Workers of the World (I.W.W. a.k.a. "The Wobblies").
Also a gifted songwriter, Joe Hill immortalized many of America's most popular union songs including "The Preacher and the Slave," "Power in a Union," and "Rebel Girl."
While leading a miners' strike in Utah, he was framed by area copper magnates and ultimately executed in 1915.  Since his death, the fighting legacy of Joe Hill has provided inspiration to workers all the world over.
This powerful play by Barrie Stavis is a beautiful tribute to both the man and the causes he fought and died for.
Our staged reading of THE MAN WHO NEVER DIED is at the Alt Theatre at 255 Great Arrow Avenue in North Buffalo's Great Arrow Building on Thursday, May 1st at 7:30pm (doors open to the public at 7pm).  Admission is free with donations gratefully accepted before, during, and after the performance.
After the reading, join us for complimentary food, drink, discussion, and CELEBRATION as we do our part to keep the spirit of May Day alive and kicking!

Our annual May Day Performance is also the kick-off for our new season of plays.  At this event we'll be eagerly signing up contributors for our new season (and encouraging former supporters to re-enlist).  We accept members at the following levels:
