"What I have most wanted to do throughout the past ten years is to make political writing into an art.  My starting point is always a feeling of partisanship, a sense of injustice.
When I sit down to write... I do not say to myself: 'I am going to produce a work of art.'  I write it because there is some lie that I want to expose, some fact to which I want to draw attention, and my initial concern is to get a hearing."

-George Orwell

CRUNCH TIME!
Only two days before opening night our devoted behind-the-scenes-ians work frantically to get everything ready.  At center, Director Virginia Brannon* confers with Sound Designer John Shotwell as Set Designer Dyan O'Connell* (left) fine tunes the projector and Lighting Designer Carlie Todoro-Rickus (right) prepares to ascend the ladder.

WAITING IN THE WINGS
Actors Kelly Beuth* (left) and Dana Block* (right) take the chance to get a final look at their lines as the techies get everything in position.

LET THERE BE LIGHT
Ever-helpful John Rickus (assistant and husband to our diligent lighting designer) works deftly amongst the rafters making the most of our rudimentary lighting system.

MONOLOGUE #1
As rehearsal gets underway, Actor Kelly Beuth* (right) performs the play's opening monologue as Director Virginia Brannon* (left) takes notes.

PROMPT!
Director Virginia Brannon* (right) turns to consult with stage manager and prompt Travis Hedland (left).

MONOLOGUE #2
Turning her attention back to the actors, Director Virginia Brannon* (left) keeps a watchful eye on Actor Lawrence Rowswell* (right) as he performs the play's second monologue.

BACK TO THE GRINDSTONE
As the actors finish up their portion of the rehearsal, the fearless techies plunge back to work.  At center Sound Designer John Shotwell consults with Director Virginia Brannon* as Set & Costume Designer Dyan O'Connell* (bottom left) sorts through her gear and Lighting Designer Carlie Todoro-Rickus* (top right) scrutinizes her top-of-show light.  Unseen at top of ladder, John Rickus adjusts a lighting instrument from on high.
