"I would like my plays to be of use to progressive people. I think preaching to the converted is exactly what art ought to do."

-Tony Kushner
1995

"Has the Whole World Gone Crazy?"
by Elizabeth Emmons of New York City

About the Play:
"Has the Whole World Gone Crazy" is a conversational -- almost Seinfeld-esque -- vignette about two coffee shop intellectuals in search a meaningful way of doing something about all the problems in the world.  This very short piece is reminiscent of elements of Chekhov, Vaclav Havel, and Becket as it playfully blends sarcasm with some very serious social issues.
"I was feeling disillusioned with the social and political circumstances in the U.S. (still am) and was searching to find meaningful political action." the playwright explains when asked what led her to write this work.  "My answer ended up being that the only meaningful political action is personal, and is about one's ability to communicate their ideas and emotional reactions to others."

She then added, "The other option is to forget about meaningful political action and concern one's self solely with amusements."
