ABOUT THE PLAY.
   
"Medals" is a down-to-earth story that follows the drama as the parents of an American soldier in Iraq learn that their son is preparing to become a deserter.

ABOUT THE PLAYWRIGHT.
   
Mark Cornell's plays have been produced and/or developed at MadLab Theatre, Towne St. Theatre, the Pittsburgh New Works Festival, Hudson Theatre, ASK Theatre Projects, Interact Theatre Company, Shelterbelt, Horse Trade Theatre Co. (NY), Playwrights Roundtable at The Arts Center, and UCLA, among others. His plays include Long Lost; Duped; The Killing Room; Sprucehaven B; South Side, an adaptation of Gorky's The Lower Depths; Shelton Maine; The Retreat; Medals; The Rental Company; and The Inciting Incident. He has written and directed a number of short films, including A House in Los Osos; The Camera (best script at the Carrboro Film Festival); Sweet Dreams for Maisie (director); and Mr. Moonlight (director) with Estes Tarver and Joan Darling. He received his MFA in Playwriting and BA in English from UCLA. He lives in Chapel Hill, NC.

ABOUT THE CAST.
Jack Agugliaro* ("Jim")
   
Jack, a reading specialist, participated in Subversive’s May 1st reading of The Furies of Mother Jones, and performed in Widows last fall.  He appeared in Drop Hammer (Frank Ryan), and two previous Subversive Shorts (2007 & 2009). 
    A past chairman of Theatre in the Mist, Jack appeared in numerous TITM productions, including An Inspector Calls (Arthur Birling), for which he won a TANYS Outstanding Acting Award, June Groom (Harvey Dawson), Anything Goes (Moonface Martin), The Sunshine Boys (Willie Clark), Brighton Beach Memoirs (Jack), and You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown (Snoopy).  He directed Steel Magnolias last season, garnering a TANYS award for sound.

Rebecca Ward ("Nancy")
    
Rebecca was last seen at Subversive as O’Brien in 84.  Other roles this year in the region were Ophelia in Anna In the Tropics at BUA and a member of the ensemble for BUFFALO QUICKIES at the Alleyway Theater.  Look for Rebecca's acting talents at work again in Subversive Theatre's forthcoming production of Bertolt Brecht's THE MOTHER for the 2010 Buffalo "infringement" Festival.

 

Maura Pellettieri ("Katie")
   
Maura is a writer and musician, and runs a clay-oven bread collective on the east side of Buffalo.  She graduated with a B.A. in English from SUNY Buffalo.  This is her first time acting with Subversive Theater, in Buffalo, and as an adult.

 

 

 

ABOUT THE DIRECTOR.
Virginia Brannon*
    Virginia is happy to participate in her third sUBVERsIVE sHORTs as a director.  She has directed several shows for Subversive including Nickel and Dimed, Palace of the End and Twilight: Los Angeles 1992.  She enjoys directing in the yearly Buffalo "infringement" Festivals, where she is honored to be directing three of four short plays in quARTet in this year’s festival.
