"The Arts are the locale for a kind of guerilla warfare . . . they're subtle so the Establishment gambles that they won't lead to anything threatening.
But the Establishment often loses that gamble."

"All this happened, more or less."

            Come time tripping with us!

Subversive Theatre kicks off our lucky thirteenth season with one of the all-time subversive greats -- a story that has been banned and praised and left audiences outraged, mesmerized, amused, inspired, and perplexed: SLAUGHTERHOUSE FIVE.

Get unstuck in time all over again with all-American Billy Pilgrim as his cryptic odyssey leads him through the devastation of the bombing of Dresden in WWII, the malaise of post-War middle America, and the mind-bending alien world of Tralfamadore.  Looking back on life, loss, sex, and war through a whirlwind of broken glimpses, our anti-hero can't stop the suffering that is to come, but... so it goes.

"America is the wealthiest nation on Earth, but its people are mainly poor, and the poor are urged to hate themselves."
                                                             -Vonnegut

Adapted for the stage by Steppenwolf Theatre's Eric Simonson, this epic-scale play graphically brings to life Kurt Vonnegut's landmark Novel with a massive cast, dozens of different settings that swirl by with tornado-like ferocity, and a gripping combination of horror and humor that reminds us why this tale has addicted audiences for almost five decades.

Directed by Subversive Theatre's own Michael Lodick*, our time-tripping adventure features the acting talents of Tim Joyce*, John Kennedy*, John Profeta, Elizabeth Catania, Shane Zimmerman, Rick Lattimer, Jane Cudmore*, Kathleen Godwin, Michael Breen, J. Tim Raymond*, Brittany Gabryel, Cody Jones, Murry Galloway*, Albert Falcone*, Thorin Vallentine, and Martino Renzoni.

Our rendition boasts an extensive multi-tiered set designed by Timothy Lane, with Lights by Kaitlin Gill, Costumes by Tamara S. Hopersberger*, and Sound & Video by Bob Van Valin*.

"Everything is supposed to be very quiet after a massacre, and it always is, except for the birds.  And what do the birds say?  All there is to say after a massacre, things like 'Poo-tee-weet?'"
                                                             -Vonnegut

SLAUGHTERHOUSE FIVE (OR THE CHILDREN'S CRUSADE) runs September 10th -- October 11th with performances Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays at 8pm and Sundays at 2pm at our regular performance venue -- The Manny Fried Playhouse at 255 Great Arrow Avenue on the third floor of North Buffalo's historic Great Arrow Building.

Tickets are $25 General Admission or $20 for students, seniors, and Subversive Theatre members.  As always, for all Thursday shows admission is pay-what-you-can.
