"The thrust for freedom is the quality in tragedy which
exalts. The revolutionary questioning of the stable environment is
what terrifies. In no way is the common man debarred from such
thoughts or such actions."
-Arthur Miller

About the Cast + Crew of
SPEAK TRUTH TO
POWER
Here are the generous, progressive-minded artists who
donated their time and talents to make our May Day Performance possible:
|
Kurt "Vile" Schneiderman
(Director)
Subversive Theatre's Founder & Artistic Director,
Kurt is honored to have the opportunity to bring this powerful work to life.
Kurt has directed the lion's share of Subversive
Theatre's shows including PAUL ROBESON SPEAKS OUT!, ACCIDENTAL DEATH
OF AN ANARCHIST, and -- most recently -- FOUNDATIONS.
Kurt sends all his love to Jenny the Magnificent
without whom all of this would be worthless.

|
Diane Cammarata
("Narrator")
A long time member of Subversive Theatre, Diane has taught and directed drama and musical
theatre both in America and abroad. Locally, she has been seen in
numerous productions at Irish Classical, Studio Arena, Alleyway Theatres, and
TornSpace to name only a few.
Diane first appeared with Subversive Theatre in our
production of PATRIOT ACT as part of our 2005 "sUBVERsIVE
sHORTs" program. Last year she directed our staged reading of WAITING
FOR LEFTY for May Day 2006, and -- up next -- Diane will be directing a
piece called "The Death of Socrates in America" as part of our 2007 "sUBVERsIVE
sHORTs" program.
Whatever the capacity, we're always thrilled to have Diane
involved! |
|
|
Hasheen DeBerry
("First Voice")
A relatively new member of Subversive Theatre, Hasheen has been involved with theatre in many
capacities both on and off stage since 2001.
Behind the scenes, Hasheen has done everything from
stage management, lights & sound, to set construction. On stage he
has appeared in such productions as HOUSE OF BLUE LEAVES, TWO
GENTLEMEN OF VERONA, A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM, ONCE ON THIS
ISLAND, and HAIR.
Hasheen's first appearance with
Subversive Theatre came in our 2007 production of FOUNDATIONS (pictured
right). Up next, he will be serving as the tech director of our 2007 "sUBVERsIVE
sHORTs" program.
|
 |
|
 |
Lara Haberberger
("Second Voice")
A relatively recent arrival in the land of snow and
chicken wings, Lara is the founder of the Brazen-Faced Varlets Theatre
Company. Last summer, Lara made her presence felt at the 2006 Buffalo
"infringement" Festival with her uproarious production of RAMONA
AND JULIET -- a wild gender bending comedy that she produced, directed and
starred in.
This is Lara's first appearance with Subversive Theatre,
but she'll soon return to direct LINDSAY as part of our 2007 "sUBVERsIVE
sHORTs" program. |
|
|
David Granville
("Third Voice")
Former Chairman of the Buffalo Arts Commission, Dave
is now the Vice Chair of Subversive Theatre's Board of Trustees and a welcome
member of any Subversive production.
A veteran theatre director and administrator, Dave
has twice before put his acting talents to use in our staged readings -- first
for THE MOTHER (as the simpleton striker Yegor Lushin pictured right)
for May Day 2005 and then for BURY THE DEAD as part of the Buffalo
installment of the international "Bury the Dead Project" in
September of 2005.

|
 |
Patricia Armstrong
("Fourth Voice")
A member of both Subversive Theatre and the Ujima Theatre Company, Pat is
well known for her work as
an actor, singer, and costume designer on a virtually endless list of
Buffalo production.
Pat first appeared with Subversive Theatre in our
staged reading of BURY THE DEAD (pictured left) for the Buffalo
rendition of the international "Bury the Dead Project" on September 19th, 2005. Most recently,
Pat performed in our staged reading of the anti-war docu-drama WHAT I HEARD ABOUT IRAQ on March 20th,
2006 to mark the third anniversary of the U.S. Invasion of Iraq. |
|
|
Marshall Maxwell
("Fifth Voice")
One of the earliest members of Subversive Theatre and
a member of our Board of Trustees, Marshall is a truculent advocate of all
forms of political theatre.
A well-traveled thespian, Marshall has worked with
such troupes as Boston's Little Flaggs Theatre Company and NYC's famous LaMama
Cafe. Locally his stage credits include THE MIGHTY GENTS with the Paul Robeson
Theatre and THE RESERVOIR with the New Phoenix
Theatre.
With Subversive Theatre Marshall has appeared in our
productions of A FUNNY THING HAPPENED ON MY WAY TO SHOOT THE CZAR (pictured
right) for the
2004 Toronto Fringe Festival and, most recently, in FOUNDATIONS at
the New Phoenix Theatre.
|
 |
|
 |
Julie Oesch
("Sixth Voice")
Another member of Subversive Theatre with a predilection for
off-beat art, Julie's recent credits include the New Phoenix
Theatre's AT THE MERCY, Buffalo Ensemble Theatre's LA BELLE SOURIE,
and even a brief cameo in Vincent Gallo's 1997 indy film BUFFALO '66.
Julie's first appearance with Subversive Theatre was as
beer-guzzling klanswoman Molly (pictured left) in our utterly zany production
of SINCERITY FOREVER for the 2006 Buffalo "infringement"
Festival. |
|
|
Keith Elkins
("Seventh Voice")
A veteran thespian who's appeared in over 50
different area productions, Keith has performed in a long list of Subversive
Theatre shows... including our original May Day Performance of KARL MARX IN
ALLENTOWN in 2002.
Keith's other Subversive credits include, A FUNNY
THING HAPPENED ON MY WAY TO SHOOT THE CZAR (2002), BURY THE DEAD
(2003), MOTHER DIS-COURAGE (2004
& 2005 -- pictured right), WHAT I HEARD ABOUT IRAQ (2006), and FOUNDATIONS
(2007).
Up next, Keith will be performing in our production
of "Eff You" as part of our 2007 "sUBVERsIVE sHORTs"
program.

|
|
 |
Dana Block
("Eighth Voice")
Yet another member of Subversive Theatre, Dana racked
up a long list of stage credits in her native Chicago before moving to our
area in 2005.
Dana made her Buffalo debut with a self-produced
presentation of her original one-woman show MY HAIR PIECE at the 2005
Buffalo "infringement" festival. In keeping with her interest in political theatre,
Dana then performed in the Irish Classical Theatre's production of Dario
Fo's THE ACCIDENTAL DEATH OF AN ANARCHIST in the Fall of 2005.
Dana's first appearance with Subversive
Theatre came in our staged reading of BURY
THE DEAD for the Buffalo installment of the international "Bury
the Dead Project" on September of 2005. Most recently, Dana played the irate wife
"Edna" (pictured left) in WAITING FOR LEFTY for May
Day 2006. |
