SPEAK TRUTH TO POWER
by Ariel Dorfman
Tuesday, May 1st
7:30pm
Hallwalls Contemporary Arts Center
341 Delaware Avenue
Admission Free/Donations Welcome!
For our sixth-annual May Day Performance, Subversive
Theatre is very excited to present a staged reading of Tony Award-winning
Chilean Playwright Ariel Dorfman's powerful new play SPEAK TRUTH TO POWER.
Adapted from the book (of the same title) by Kerry Kennedy, this roughly
hour-long docudrama calls upon eight actors to perform the testimonials of
over fifty different human rights activist from all over the world.
Shocking, empowering, uplifting, and always inspiring,
these testimonials span just about every human rights issue imaginable and
include the words of organizers like Desmond Tutu, the Dalai Lama, Elie Wiesel,
Sister Helen Prejean, and many, many more.
Directed by Subversive Theatre's Founder & Artistic
Director Kurt Schneiderman*, our staged reading boasts a wonderfully
subversive cast that features the acting talents of Keith Elkins, Patricia Armstrong*, and Dana
Block*, David Granville*, Diane Cammarata*, Marshall Maxwell*, Julie Oesch*,
Hasheen DeBerry* and Lara Haberberger. This one-night-only performance will be held in the screening
room of Hallwalls Contemporary Arts Center at 341 Delaware Avenue.
Admission is free, but -- as always -- donations will be warmly welcomed!
Help us keep the spirit of May Day alive! Join us for
the staged reading of this play that offers a unique opportunity to hear the
words of those who are standing up and fighting against oppression in today's
world.
The performance will be followed by a small reception and
informal discussion to which everyone is invited.
