The Subversive Theatre
Collective is proud to present a double header of two one-act greats of
Absurdist Theatre -- THE LESSON by Eugene Ionesco and ON THE SEA
by Slawomir Mrozek.
THE LESSON is the quintessential absurdist piece
which examines violence in
society as we spend time learning the ultimate lesson between a Pupil
and her Teacher who lectures on the cruel and strange ways of the world. Our
rendition is directed by Drew McCabe and stars James Wild, Jessica Wegrzyn,
and Kelsey Mathes.
ON THE SEA
on its surface is the tale of three men stranded on a raft, but beneath this deceptively simple
sarcastic situation is a
fascinating exploration of how society is organized . . . and the
thin-veiled lies that keep it going! Our rendition is directed by Mark Tattenbaum and stars
Matthew Nerber, Kurt Erb, Jenna Beth Stockman, and David Utter.
The overall production features puppet &
mask design by Drew McCabe, set design by Drew McCabe and Mark Tattenbaum,
sound design by Drew McCabe and Candice Kogut*, and fight choreography by
Candice Kogut*.
Performances run from May 21st through June 7th,
Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays at 8pm. All shows
are at Subversive Theatre's recently established performance venue, "The
Manny Fried Playhouse" on the third floor of North Buffalo's
Great Arrow Building at 255 Great Arrow Avenue.
Like all Subversive Theatre productions, admission
for this show is free with donations gratefully accepted before, during, and
after each performance. Reservations are not available, seating is on a
first-come-first-served basis with doors opening one half hour prior to each
performance.
