"What I have most wanted to do throughout the past ten years is to make political writing into an art.  My starting point is always a feeling of partisanship, a sense of injustice.
"When I sit down to write... I do not say to myself: 'I am going to produce a work of art.'  I write it because there is some lie that I want to expose, some fact to which I want to draw attention, and my initial concern is to get a hearing."

-George Orwell

"A superior play by author Kurt Schneiderman unwinds on a flycast line into the murk, he reels and plays it back in with taut assurance."

Subversive Theatre is very proud to present a reprisal of our critically-acclaimed original play WATERBOARDING BLUES, written and directed by our very own Founder & Artistic director Kurt Schneiderman*.  This piece was first presented in April of this year, but due to the enormous success of our production and the ongoing relevance of the issue of waterboarding in current events, we have chosen to bring back this daring, topical work for a limited engagement.

-- Some Facts on Waterboarding

WATERBOARDING BLUES plunges unflinchingly into one of the most painful subjects facing Americans today -- the unofficially official use of torture by our own government.  Mixing realism with Twilight-Zone-esque surrealism, this drama leads audiences on a dizzyingly intense journey as a military intelligence officer in modern day Baghdad is pushed by supernatural forces into stunning revelations about the harsh realities of America's past, present, and future.
Sobering, spellbinding, and unapologetically agitational, WATERBOARDING BLUES is a powerful and urgently necessary statement on outrages and hypocrisies of our Twenty-First Century World.
We are thrilled to present this revival with the original cast and crew still intact.  Recently returned from work off-off-Broadway, local actor Gordon Tashjian heads up an ensemble that also includes Dennis Keefe*, James Wild, Robert "Hodie" Hodas*, Jessica Stuber*, John Vines, and Travis Hedland.  Set Design is by Dyan O'Connell* with Sound Design by John Shotwell*, Costume Design by Paul Stephenson*, Lighting Design by Craig Freudenthal, and Poster Design by Dan Sterlace*.
Performances run from June 18th through July 10th, Thursdays & Fridays at 8pm.  All shows are at Subversive Theatre's regular performance venue, "The Manny Fried Playhouse" on the third floor of North Buffalo's Great Arrow Building at 255 Great Arrow Avenue.
Like all Subversive Theatre productions, admission for this show is free with donations gratefully accepted before and after each performance.  Reservations are not available, seating is on a first-come-first-served basis with doors opening one half hour prior to each performance.  Due to the nature of the show, late-comers cannot be seated so come early and claim seats while the getting's good.
