 SLUT

directed by Kelly M. Beuth*     starring emerging student actors of buffalo's performing arts high school

by Katie Cappiello

the 8th installment of our "Subversive Youth Series," SLUT is an unflinching look at slut-shaming, gender prejudice, and rape culture drawn from the real life words of real life teenage girls on all too real experiences.  developed by nyc's Arts Effect All-Girl Theater Company, this gutsy work has been making waves ever since it debuted at the ny international fringe festival in 2013.

it hits on heavy subjects, but it's no downer -- this is an empowering tale that creates a rare opportunity to "open up" about some of the most difficult problems in our world today.  we're eager to share this play with all audiences -- female AND male, young AND old -- and help add to a discussion that's long overdue in this society.

ALL shows will be followed by an open discussion with the audience involving the cast and members of Planned Parenthood of Central and Western New York.  SLUT is directed by subversive's associate artistic director Kelly M. Beuth* and performed entirely by young women actors of buffalo's performing arts high school.  the cast includes Tallulah Gordon, Audrey Kurdziel, Renysia Thomas, Melisa Rivas Alvarez, Molly/Oliver Lewars, Isabella Rodriguez, Katara Willis, Daleina Valdiva, Treasure Johnson, and Alishia Chardon.

performances run june 22-30 thursdays, fridays, and saturdays at 7:30 at our home venue THE MANNY FRIED PLAYHOUSE (255 great arrow avenue on the third floor of north buffalo's historic great arrow building).  tickets are $15 general admission or $10 for students with valid I.D.  all thursday shows are pay-what-you-can.  purchase tickets right here online or leave reservations on our phoneline at 716-462-5549.

"an exceptional play that looks you straight in the eye and tells you what it means to grow up female and sexual in a world marked by double standards and violence."
